A Thank you From the Widows, Orphans & Disabled Firemen's Fund

Dear Summit Event Catering,

It is a privilege for us to thank you and everyone at Summit Event Catering for you Exceeding generous contribution to Hope for Firefighters 2012 event to the Widows, Orphans & Disabled Firemen's Fund, a 105-year-old non-profit.

In a time of financial uncertainty, it's the generosity of donors like you that allows us to continue providing much-needed services to the families of fallen firefighters. Whether it's assisting an elderly firefighter's widow living on her own, ensuring that disabled firefighters have the durable medical equipment they need, or providing scholarships to the children of fallen firefighters to pursue their educational; dreams, it is our goal to support the LAFD family after they've given so much to our community.

Widows and Orphans continue to reach out to both new and long-time supporters through our online initiative. From our new website to our social media account to our regular newsletter, it's easier then to learn about our fundraising event and how we are assisting firefighters and their families. To stay connected, please visit our website at WODFF.org.

On behalf of the entire Los Angeles Firemen's Relief Association, we offer our most sincere gratitude for your generosity in support of the Widows, Orphans & Disabled Firemen's Fund.

Sincerely

John Jacobsen, President
Los Angeles Firemen's Relief Association

Summit Supporting Firefighters

The largest Firefighter's Appreciation Event in the Nation
Established 1998

On June 7th, Mayor Villaraigosa and the City of Los Angeles, The Los Angeles Fire Department (LAFD), Summit Event Catering, Corporate Sponsors, Teams and thousands of Angelinos gathered for the purpose to honor the firefighters who risk their lives to serve and protect us, and to raise funds for the Los Angeles Firemen’s Relief Association’s Widows, Orphans and Disabled Firemen’s Fund, a valuable 501(c)(3) organization.

Several blocks of a busy Los Angeles business district were blocked off for what has become the largest fundraising event of its kind in the United States. Firefighters from twenty-five stations set up unique booths featuring several culinary delights, ranging from fish tacos to hamburgers to tri-tip sandwiches to deep-fried Oreo cookies. Area residents and business people flocked to the event, paying for a meal ticket that enabled them to eat this delicious food, which was donated by various local corporate sponsors.
In addition to the proceeds of the lunch tickets, the event raised funds for the families of fallen and disabled firefighters through corporate sponsorship, raffles and the sale of Los Angeles Fire Department merchandise through the Dalmatian Firehouse Store.  Battalion Chief Steve Ruda of the Los Angeles Fire Department announced that the event had raised over $100,000 in four hours.
